Just 73 seconds after the launch of Challenger on 28 January 1986, a booster engine failed leading to disintegration of Shuttle Challenger killing all 7 crew members aboard. This was a sad yet eye opening incident in the history of space exploration.
It was later determined that cold weather, combined with a design flaw, led to the accident. It is believed that Nasa engineer tried to stop the launch. It seemed as if they knew that it’s going to blow up.

After the accident, NASA’s Space Shuttle programme was grounded for almost three years. Later in 1988, Space shuttle Discovery lifted off from the Kennedy Space Centre with a crew off five.
