Until 47 years ago, calling while walking or moving was just impossible. Thanks to engineer Martin cooper who made it possible. He made the first mobile phone call 45 years ago today while he stood in midtown Manhattan and placed a call to the headquarters of Bell Labs in New Jersey.
The substance of the call is lost to history. Cooper’s inaugural mobile conversation is remembered as – “I’m ringing you just to see if my call sounds good at your end,’ or something to that effect.”
The phone at that time, was nine inches tall, contained 30 circuit boards, had a talk-time of 35 minutes and took 10 hours to recharge, completely opposite of the mobile phones we have today.

The first mobile phone call was made using a prototype of the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x, which weighed about 2.2 pounds and had a talk time of just 30 minutes. Despite its limitations, the impact of the first mobile phone call was immense.
