You will be surprised to know that it was primarily marketed as a cure for headaches and fatigue. In 1886, Coca-Cola was initially created as a patented medicine by John Pemberton. Patented Medicines are the ones which are promoted as medicines but they do not act like medicine in reality.
It contained cocaine from the coca leaf and caffeine from the kola nut. It was sold in pharmacies as a tonic and was marketed as a cure for various ailments, including impotence and morphine addiction. In 1903, the company removed the cocaine from the formula, and it was rebranded as a soft drink. Today, Coca-Cola is one of the world’s most popular soft drinks.
Coca‑Cola was first sold in Jacobs’ Pharmacy where it was on sale for five cents (about 3p) a glass.
