“The first of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year.”

Today is Fools’ Day, celebrated with pranks and jokes every year. It’s exact origin is a mystery but it’s believed that April Fools’ Day dates back to 1564, when France reformed its calendar, moving the start of the year from the end of March to January 1. Those who failed to keep up with the change, continued to celebrate the New Year during the week that fell between March 25th and April 1st. They had jokes played on them and the pranksters would stick paper fish to their backs. The victims of this prank were thus called April fools, and so the tradition was born.

आज April Fools Day है. जिसे मूर्ख दिवस भी कहा जाता है. इस दिन की शुरुआत को लेकर कई मान्यताएं हैं. फ्रांस में 1564 तक जूलियन कैलेंडर मान्य था. जिसके मुताबिक नये साल की शुरुआत अप्रैल में होती थी. बाद में ग्रेगोरियन कैलेंडर की वजह से नया साल एक जनवरी को शुरू होने लगा हालांकि सब लोगों ने एकदम से इस बदलाव को स्वीकार नहीं किया और अप्रैल में ही नया साल मनाते रहे. ऐसे लोगों को अप्रैल Fool कहा गया. और वहीं से ये शब्द चलन में आया.
