The small puppy in the image above is very special. Today is his birthday. He was born today in 2005. In the same year, it was claimed TIME’s “Invention of the Year”.
It’s world’s first cloned dog. An afghan hound, created using a cell from an ear of an adult Afghan hound and involved 123 surrogate mothers, of which only three produced pups. Snuppy being the sole survivor. It was produced by a team of South Korean researchers with Woo-Suk Hwang, a professor of Seoul National University.
Although many animals were cloned before this but this was a special case as before this all efforts of cloning a dog failed. This was due to the problematic task of maturing a canine ovum in an artificial environment.
Snuppy’s journey continued and in September 2008 Snuppy became father of 10 cute little puppies. This marked first breeding in cloned dogs.
Rarely a dog gets so much name and fame.

इस कुत्ते का नाम रखा गया था स्नपी… 2005 में इसे क्लोन किया गया था और इसी साल टाइम मैगेज़ीन ने इसे ‘Invention of the year’ कहा था… एक अफगानी ब्रीड के कुत्ते के कान से सेल्स लेकर और 123 surrogate mothers की मदद से स्नपी का जन्म हो सका… इन 123 में से सिर्फ 3 ऐसी ब्रीड थी जिसने बच्चों को जन्म दिया… इनमें से भी सिर्फ स्नपी ही बच सका… दक्षिण कोरिया के वैज्ञानिकों और सियोल नेशनल यूनिवर्सिटी के प्रोफेसर Woo-Suk Hwang की कोशिशों से ये क्लोन मुमकिन हो सका…
