22 Apr : What is the importance of ‘Earth Day’ ?

Fight to protect our planet goes on for centuries now, and we are still struggling to save our planet Earth. One of such initiative is Earth Day.

Since last 53 years, a day is dedicated for Earth. Every year we celebrate 22 April as Earth day for creating awareness about keeping the planet clean, healthy and happy. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now celebrated in more than 192 countries every year.

This day was created by American Senator, Gaylord Nelson, to make people aware of the importance of keeping our planet healthy and clean. After seeing the damage done by a 1969 massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California, Nelson was inspired to organize a national “teach-in” that focused on educating the public about the environment. On that day, people made promises to help the environment and make positive changes in their community. 

Long way to go, hopefully we are heading in the right direction. Let’s not wait for 22nd April every year to love our planet, rather love it with all your gestures everyday.

अपनी धरती को बचाने की मुहिम के तहत आज के दिन को सेलिब्रेट करने का चलन शुरु हुआ था… इसे धरती दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है… पिछले 50! वर्षों से इस दिन को देश के तमाम देश अपने-अपने तरीके से मनाते आए हैं… और आज की तारीख में दुनिया के 192 देश इस मुहिम का हिस्सा हैं… इस दिन की शुरुआत सिर्फ और सिर्फ लोगोॆ को धरती की तरफ उनकी ज़िम्मेदारी को लेकर जागरुक करने के लिए की गई थी… अमेरिकी सीनेटर Gaylord Nelson ने कैलिफोर्निया के सांता बारबरा में हुई तबाही के बाद लोगों को जागरुक करने और उन्हें पर्यावरण को बचाने का मकसद समझाने के लिए एक पहल की थी… नतीजा आज पूरी दुनिया उनकी इस मुहिम को आगे बढ़ाने में जुट गई है…
