17 Apr : Best teacher in the World !

Teaching is a respectable profession. This has reference from the 'Guru'kul era to the 'Tech'kul era. The style and curriculum has changed but not the feeling. Meet the best teacher of the world.

!!Guru Brahma Gurur Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshwaraha!!
!!Guru Saakshat Para Brahma, Tasmai Sree Gurave Namaha!!

The true meaning of Guru is “one who dispels darkness of ignorance”. “Gu” means “darkness of ignorance” and “Ru” means “one who removes”. Guru resembles the trinity Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Brahma is creator. Guru creates or inculcates knowledge in the minds of the students. Guru is Vishnu. Lord Vishnu maintains the creation. Similarly Guru helps in keeping up the knowledge. Guru is like Shiva. Shiva is the destroyer. Guru destroys or gets rid of the ignorance from the students’ minds.

One such Guru was our Second President Bharat Ratna Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

When he became the President, some students wanted to celebrate his birthday, which falls on September 5. To which he remarked:

“Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if September 5 would be observed as Teachers’ Day.”

Since 1962, Teacher’s day is being celebrated in India. He died today in 1975.

The date on which Teachers' Day is celebrated varies from country to country. Teachers' days in different countries are distinct from World Teachers' Day, which is celebrated on 5 October.

On teacher’s day, teachers and students report to school as usual but the usual activities and classes are replaced by activities of celebration, thanks and remembrance. In some schools, on this day senior students take the responsibility of teaching in order to show their appreciation for the teachers.

“He has served his country in many capacities. But above all, he is a great Teacher from whom all of us have learnt much and will continue to learn. It is India’s peculiar privilege to have a great philosopher, a great educationist and a great humanist as her President. That in itself shows the kind of men we honour and respect.”
Pt Jawaharlal Nehru
