The story of Heath Hen Extinction
The species Heath Hen, needs a mention here, as it was today in 1932, when its last bird ‘Booming Ben’ was seen. The species found in North America got extinct because of one obvious reason of hunting. If the people of that times are believed, the bird was very tasty to eat and easy to hunt, so it was hunted the most between 1840-1870.
In 1907 there were only 50 heath hens left. A sanctuary was established for their protection. Everything was going good and their population was developing. By 1915, there were 2000 heath hens. But, things didn’t go well after that.
In 1927, only about a dozen were left with two females. By the end of the year, only males were left. After December 8, 1928, apparently only one male survived. He was lovingly nicknamed “Booming Ben”. He was last seen on his traditional lekking ground between West Tisbury and today’s Martha’s Vineyard Airport on March 11, 1932.

1932 में आज ही के दिन Heath Hen नाम का पक्षी हमेशा के लिए विलुप्त हो गया था । इस प्रजाति के आखिरी पक्षी का नाम Booming Ben था जिसे आखिरी बार 1932 में आज ही के दिन देखा गया था। Heath Hen प्रजाति का ये पक्षी खास तौर पर North America में पाया जाता जाता था। वर्ष 1840 से 1870 के बीच Heath Hen का इतना ज़्यादा शिकार हुआ कि 1932 तक ये दुर्लभ पक्षी हमेशा के लिए विलुप्त हो गया।
