18 Jan : X-ray machine changed the medical world forever

Years of research and development by scientists that first x-ray machine was exhibited. It is credited to Henry Louis Smith who formally displayed it today in 1896. When he lifted the cloth from the clear glass tank no one could understand what he is trying to show. When he told the world about the x-ray machine, everyone was shocked.

It happened a few months later when German physics professor Wilhelm Röntgen found X-rays while experimenting with Lenard and Crookes tubes and began studying them.
An x-ray machine, like that used in a doctor’s or a dentist’s office, is really very simple. An X-ray machine produces a controlled beam of radiation, which is used to create an image of the inside of your body. Inside the machine is an x-ray tube. An electron gun inside the tube shoots high energy electrons at a target made of heavy atoms, such as tungsten.
It’s easy today to get an x-ray done, but for the first x-ray machine, one has to sit in front of the x-ray machine for over an hour. The images required a radiation dose to the subject some 1,500 times higher than a modern X-ray.

आज पहली बार दुनिया के सामने x-ray मशीन को रखा गया था। मेडिकल की दुनिया में एक बहुत बड़ा कदम था। वैज्ञानिक हेनरी स्मिथ ने आज 1896 में जब अपनी रचना दिखाई तो लोग यकीन नहीं कर पाए थे। इस मशीन के ज़रिए शरीर के अंदर की छोटी से छोटी गड़बड़ की तस्वीर छप जाती थी। डॉक्टर्स उसे आसानी से देख सकते हैं और इलाज कर सकते हैं। वैसे तो x-ray निकालने में ज्यादा वक्त नहीं लगता है लेकिन पहली x-ray मशीन से x-ray निकालने के लिए किसी व्यक्ति को उसके सामने एक घंटे से ज़्यादा देर तक बैठे रहना पड़ता था।
