Train journeys are memorable. Green views and the rhythmic sound is in every Indian’s memory. But at times these train journeys create havoc when the trains run late.
But do you know when did the first train ran in India ?
It was today in 1851 and too for a very short distance of 10 km. The distance was short but the achievement was huge. The train ran between Roorkee and Piran Kaliyar. Purpose was to temporarily solve the irrigation problems of farmers. Large quantity of clay was required by the farmers and it was made available in Piran Kaliyar area, 10 km away from Roorkee via this train.
Two years after this, first passenger train ran between Mumbai (Then Bombay) and Thane. There was a 21-gun salute when the train was flagged off.
The Indian Railways has grown to be the biggest government entity in India ever since. After 163 years of the first train run, India is all set to get a superfast bullet train pretty soon.

1851 में आज भारत में पहली मालगाड़ी रुड़की से पीरां कलियार के बीच चलाई गयी थी। ये मालगाड़ी भारत की पहली रेल गाड़ी भी थी। इस मालगाड़ी से नहर के निर्माण के लिए मिट्टी भेजी गयी थी। इसके 2 वर्षों के बाद ही 1853 में भारत में मुंबई (उस समय की बंबई) से ठाणे के बीच पहली passenger train यानी यात्री ट्रेन चलाई गई थी।
