10 Dec : Nobel prizes were given for the first time

After 6 years of its establishment, Nobel prizes were given for the first time today in 1901. The prizes were awarded in the fields of Chemistry, Literature, Peace, Physics, and Physiology or Medicine.

The will of the Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel established the prizes in 1895.

The first Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Frédéric Passy and Henry Dunant; the prize was most recently awarded to the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet in 2015. 

Each recipient receives a medal, a diploma, and a monetary award prize that has varied throughout the years.

Medals made before 1980 were struck in 23 carat gold, and later from 18 carat green gold plated with a 24 carat gold coating.

आज 1901 में पहले नोबेल पुरस्कार दिए गए थे। Sweden के Chemist एल्फ्रेड नोबेल की वसीयत से ही नोबेल पुरस्कारों की शुरुआत हुई थी। ये पुरस्कार Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, साहित्य, अर्थशास्त्र और शांति के क्षेत्रों में दिए जाते हैं। ख़ास बात ये है कि 2016 में literature के field में ये पुरस्कार अमेरिकी लेखक, गायक, गीतकार Bob Dylan को दिया गया। किसी गीतकार को पहली बार उनके गीतों के लिए नोबेल दिया गया है। गीतों के लिए कवियों को नोबेल पुरस्कार दिए जा चुके हैं।
