Today in 1960, India’s first STD call was made between Lucknow and Kanpur. Before this, STD was possible but only via an operator.

माना जाता है कि 1960 में आज भारत की पहली STD यानी Subscriber Trunk Dialling call की गई थी। इसकी शुरुआत लखनऊ और कानपुर के बीच हुई थी। इस ऩए system से पहले सिर्फ operator की मदद से ही एक शहर से दूसरे शहर के बीच टेलीफोन के ज़रिए बात की जा सकती थी।
