16 Nov : The 5 in 1 initiative by the United Nations – UNESCO

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was formed today in 1945. With 195 members, UNESCO pursues its objectives through five major programs:
– Education,
– Natural sciences,
– Social/Human sciences,
– Culture, and
– Communication/Information.

India became an UNESCO member state on 4th November 1946. 

In 1995, to mark the United Nations Year for Tolerance and the 125th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, UNESCO created a prize for the promotion of tolerance and non-violence. Since then today is celebrated as International Day of Tolerance.

1945 में आज UNESCO यानी United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization का गठन हुआ था। UNESCO संयुक्त राष्ट्र की विशेष संस्था है, जो पूरी दुनिया के देशों को शिक्षा और सांस्कृतिक आधार पर जोड़ती है। UNESCO का मुख्यालय पेरिस में स्थित है और 195 देश इसके सदस्य हैं। आज अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय सहनशीलता दिवस यानी International Day for Tolerance भी है। इस दिन की शुरुआत 1995 में UNESCO ने की थी। जिसके ज़रिए लोगों को असहनशीलता से होने वाली अशांति और उसके नुकसान के बारे में जागरूक किया जाता है।
