Animal magnetism is still a field of interest even after its first existence today in 1841. Scottish surgeon James Braid bought this concept to the world. He first saw a demonstration of animal magnetism, which leads to his study of the subject. James eventually coined the term and invented the procedure known as hypnotism.
Hypnotism is the induction of a state of consciousness in which a person apparently loses the power of voluntary action and is highly responsive to suggestion or direction. Its use in therapy, typically to recover suppressed memories or to allow modification of behaviour, has been revived but is still controversial.
