“Father of the Indian nuclear programme” – Homi Jehangir Bhabha was born today in 1909.

Bhabha was more into art and culture. He was a painter and a lover of classical music and opera. It all began with his doctorate in nuclear physics degree, to teaching physics and then convincing then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to start nuclear programme.

He was the first one to become the chairperson of India’s nuclear energy Commission. He was the founder, creator and director of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, 2 leading research institutions.

He wanted atomic energy to be used to alleviate poverty and advocated the outlawing of nuclear weapons worldwide. He was the 1st chairman of the first United Nations Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy held in 1955.

आज 1909 में होमी जहांगीर भाभा का जन्म हुआ था। उन्हें भारत के न्यूक्लियर प्रोग्राम का जनक माना जाता है। होमी जहांगीर भाभा देश के दो बड़े research institutions – Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) और Trombay Atomic Energy Establishment के founder थे। 1966 में उनकी विमान दुर्घटना में मृत्यु के बाद Trombay में स्थित atomic centre का नाम उनके नाम पर Bhabha Atomic Research Centre रखा गया था।
