16 July : Foundation stone laid for the proudest moment of the millennium
Every moment is special... no matter how old or new it is. In the history of space, today meant the moment of achievements. A lot can be said from the image above, a lot is said inside. Read to know.
The video says it all and reminds of those first steps on the surface of the moon, that created history.
It was NASA’s Apollo program, Apollo 11, which was launched from the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Kennedy, Florida today in 1969.
The American effort to send astronauts to the moon had its origins in an appeal President John Kennedy made to a special joint session of Congress on May 25, 1961:
“I believe this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth.”
At the time, the United States was still trailing the Soviet Union in space developments, and Cold War-era America welcomed Kennedy’s bold proposal.
Four days later, on July 20, Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the Moon’s surface while Collins orbited overhead in the Command Module.
Armstrong and Aldrin gathered samples of lunar material and deployed scientific experiments that transmitted data about the lunar environment.

आज बात करेंगे उस उड़ान की जिसने इंसान को चांद पर पहुंचा दिया… 16 जुलाई 1969 को मेरिट आइलैंड में स्थित कैनेडी स्पेस सेंटर लाँच काम्प्लेक्स 39 (Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39) से उड़ान भरने वाला अपोलो 11, नासा के अपोलो अभियान का पाँचवा मानवी मिशन व तीसरा चंद्र अभियान था… इसके कर्मीदल् के रूप में आर्मस्ट्रांग कमांडर व ऐल्ड्रिन लुनार माड्यूल पायलट और माइकल कॉलिन्स कमांड मॉड्युल पायलट थे… आर्मस्ट्रांग और ऐल्ड्रिन चंद्रमा पर ट्रैंक्विलिटी के सागर (Sea of Tranquillity) में उतरे और 21 जुलाई 1969 को चाँद पर कदम रखने वाले पहले इंसान बन गए… उनका लुनार मॉड्युल इगल 21 घंटे और 31 मिनट चाँद की पृष्ठभूमि पर रहा और कॉलिन्स कमांड सर्विस मॉड्युल कोलंबिया में चाँद के ऊपर बने रहे… 24 जुलाई को तीनों अंतरिक्ष यात्री पृथ्वी पर प्रशांत महासागर में उतरे और अपने साथ 21.5 किलोग्राम के चाँद के नमूने लाए… अपोलो 11 ने अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति जॉन एफ़. केनेडी का चाँद पर सोवियत यूनियन से पहले उतरने का सपना साकार कर दिया जिसकी उन्होंने 1961 में गुज़ारिश की थी… इसके बाद 1969 से 1972 के बीच छः अपोलो मिशन चाँद पर भेजे गए जिसमें से पाँच चाँद पर उतरने में सक्षम रहे…
