10 March : First phone call was made

From telephone to Smart phone, the world has changed. Making a phone call was a dream before today. The first words said on phone was "Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you."

Smartphones know everything about you. But do you know, the journey to these smartphone began more than a century ago.

143 years ago today in 1876, the first successful telephone call was made. The first words said on phone was “Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you.”

Alexander Graham Bell’s notebook entry of March 10, 1876 says:

I then shouted into M [the mouthpiece] the following sentence: тАЬMr. Watson, come here тАФ I want to see you.тАЭ
To my delight he came and declared that he had heard and understood what I said.

I asked him to repeat the words.
He answered –┬атАЬYou said тАШMr. Watson тАФ come here тАФ I want to see you.’тАЭ

We then changed places and I listened at S [the speaker] while Mr. Watson read a few passages from a book into the mouthpiece M. It was certainly the case that articulate sounds proceeded from S. The effect was loud but indistinct and muffled.

Alexander Graham Bell got patent for an invention he called the Telephone just 3 days before he made the first phone call, i.e. 7 March, 1876.
Bell was born into a family deeply interested in speech and hearing. Both his father and grandfather were teachers of elocution, and throughout his life Bell had a keen interest in teaching the deaf to speak. Both his mother and the woman he married–Mabel Hubbard, one of his pupils–were deaf.
