5 Jan : Hottest temperature for the coldest place

Today is recorded in history for a very unusual experience. Antarctica had to face the hottest temperature today. What happened then ?

Antarctica is known as the coldest place on Earth. 98% of Antarctica is covered with ice. Normal temperature here varies from -18 in January to -80 in July.

But today was a special day in Antarctica history. According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the all-time warmest temperature of -15 degree Celsius was recorded in Antarctica today in 1974.

The reading was taken from the Vanda Station, which is well within the Antarctic Circle. The reading remains unofficial as the Vanda station has only been occupied for short periods, mainly during Austral summers.
